Abstract

This paper presents the results of analysis of the first comprehensive study of the North American inventory of AC circuits on common structures and their outage data statistics collected from 2013 through 2016 in the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Transmission Availability Data System (TADS) and the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) Equipment Reliability Information System (ERIS). The paper discusses the leading causes of common-structure outages and compares calculated frequency and duration indices. Additionally, a utility planning perspective of the results is provided.
