Abstract

Fiber-Wireless (Fi-Wi) network is one of the encouraging technology for the upcoming broadband access network. This network embody the optical network as a backend and Wireless network as a front end. In the optical network, the passive optical network (PON) are actualized, and the Wireless Network has adopted the divergent wireless technologies such as LTE (Long Term Evolution), Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) and WiMAX(Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access). From the foregoing research, the Fi-Wi network technology still need a boundless research due to their substantial escalation in its application. In this paper, the emerging Fi-Wi network architecture and their execution in different technologies such as MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol, LTE, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX are scrutinized. The correlation of the Fi-Wi network with these technologies is done. Based on such scrutiny, an inclusive survey of current breakthrough and unending research work in the aspects of network architecture, technologies, QoS(Quality of services) provisioning, enhancing reliability, and improving the scalability of the Fi-Wi network is provided. Further collate these former researches with the modern technologies and review the new drifts and stimulation issues on future broadband networks
