Abstract

Universal Filtered Multi Carrier (UFMC) is a multi carrier modulation technique that has recently gained attention due to it's advantages over Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and Filter Bank Multi Carrier (FBMC). Better spectral properties and reduced filter length make UFMC one among the strong contenders for 5G. Besides these it is important that the system should have reduced Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) along with low bit error rates. These two parameters have more significance in 5G in which massive volume data at ultra high speed is the main highlight. A combination of DFT spreading and wavelet filtering is done in UFMC system for the reduction of PAPR and BER. The performance is evaluated using CCDF plot, BER plot and transmitted signal spectrum. Simulation results show that the proposed system has better PAPR reduction along with a good BER performance in AWGN as well as fading channels.
