Abstract

The introduction of two conversion processes, the instantaneous distribution conversion process and the time conversion process, into the original Path Probability method (PPM) of irreversible statistical mechanics shows that the percolation efficiency of the ionic conduction in binary systems is extremely sensitive to the fluctuation in the distribution of two kinds of ions than the original PPM. The decrease of the percolation efficiency over a wide composition region is thus predicted and this makes the concept of the percolation efficiency proposed earlier based on the original PPM more plausible in accounting for the mixed alkali effect.
