Abstract

ABSTRACT In a large area used for livestock production in the north east of the Pampas region of Buenos Aires, central Argentina, there is a subpopulation of endangered armadillo species (Chaetophractus vellerosus) which is threatened by mining activities. Knowledge and perception of local communities living in the range of the endangered species were evaluated using an anonymous online questionnaire. A total of 618 questionnaires were filled out, with the majority of respondent (82%) not being aware of the existence of this species. The study documented the lack of knowledge and the need to develop strategies to increase local communities’ awareness toward this species.
