Abstract

Objective: t he objective the study was to know the perception of patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 assisted at the Family Health Strategy of Fortaleza-CE, Brazil. Method: t his is a descriptive research carried out in a Family Health Strategy Primary Unit of Fortaleza-CE in November 2010. The sample consisted of ten diabetic patients, randomly selected during their follow-up in this institution. Data collection happened through semi-structured interviews. Data were divided in categories and analyzed through content analysis. Results: t he diabetic patients reported satisfaction in consultation because they received medication, it was verified the knowledge deficiency on their disease and the lack of health education activities to this public. Conclusion: i t was concluded disabilities in educational activities, as well as the need to promote self-care, aiming a better quality of life in order to increase self-esteem of the carrier of the studied disease.
