Abstract

Perception is the process through which people communicate, and interact with theirsurrounding environment, as it is filled with stimuli that perception help us rate andorganize in a way that gives us a meaning. This perception is formulated by the person’sculture and perceptual concepts, according to that the reaction of the person to hisenvironment is determined. This stage paves to a certain behavior towards theenvironment. Therefore, our behavior depends on our understanding of what around us.Nowadays، architecture has no longer have specific cultural reference, as a result the gap between architecture and culture of person is widened، which may cause malfunction inthe Perception process.This research studies models of islamic heritage architecture in Egypt because it carriesinside a lot of non materialistic dimensions that is associated with the culture of thecommunity and its spiritual dimensions. We will recognize the non-material aspects of thisarchitectural and urbanism heritage, and monitor their impacts on the Perception, and thepersonal response towards the environment and personal interaction with it.The research concludes that compatibility between non-material dimensions of buildings,heritage and the culture of the person leads to easy understanding for meaningful values inthe building environment. Through that the Perception process will occur properly and thiswill lead to camaraderie and sense of belonging towards the place, thus it will initiatepositive behaviors towards this place.
