Summary

Introduction

Nursing is defined as the science and art of caregiving a person. Caregiving was considered a female activity, comprising skills that only women could have; men were conceived as food providers and household protectors. Society has certain perceptions for caregiving by men, but the roles have been affected and there are evolving social perceptions of care quality. People currently have full access to information allowing them to differentiate and better understand nursing care and the impact it has had on gender roles. Today men can be part of the nursing staff, performing roles of command and social responsibility that this profession currently has [9, 14,15,16]
