Abstract

The purpose of the study was to examine the perceived needs of home eco nomics faculty members regarding the acquisition and management of sponsored research funding. Current and desired levels of skill were assessed, using the Faculty Needs Assessment: Acquisition and Management of Sponsored Funding. Both current and desired skill levels were perceived to be highest in the area of proposal writing and lowest in the area of project management. There were sig nificant positive relationships between current and desired skill levels. Analyses based on demographic variables revealed significant differences on current levels of skill for gender, academic rank, and tenure status. On desired levels of skill, significant differences were found for gender and length of experience. The re sults provide a basis for designing development activities which will enable home economics faculty members to compete more effectively in the research arena.
