Abstract

This study aims to reveal the concept of the role of nature from the view of Malays based on the type in Dikalahkan Sang Sapurba romance by Ediruslan Pe Amanriza. The method used is analytical descriptive with reference to environmental ethics and Kluckhohn. Data, in the form of sentences or paragraph quotes from romances, are classified and analyzed to obtain a complete understanding of environmental issues based on the concept of the role of nature. The results of the analysis show that the role of nature, which is believed to be both magical and real, will determine the form of identity of its social control. Magical roles provide sacred nature as a form of ecocentricism, while the real role symbolizesthat nature can be mastered or opposed which reflects the form of anthropocentrism from the perspective of environmental ethics. This study also shows that the real role is more dominant than the occult role so the end of the story is shown by the form of sad ending.
