Abstract
This study found that schools have not been able to effectively instill life skills in all students, especially in answering the challenges of job competition. The purpose of this study was to identify the role of vocational high schools in improving students' life skills in Cosmetology and Beauty majors. The method used is a qualitative approach with descriptive research method. Data were collected through observation, interviews with teachers, department heads, and students, as well as processing information that is useful for research. The results showed that vocational schools play a role as a place to develop abilities, especially in the field of Cosmetology and Beauty. However, evaluation of the Cosmetology and Beauty study program is carried out periodically to ensure the suitability of the education program with the beauty industry. The implication of this research is the need for planning to improve life skills in the Cosmetology and Beauty department by integrating life skills values into the curriculum and teaching methods. This is expected to produce students and graduates who are competitive and successful in their career path. Abstrak Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa sekolah belum mampu secara efektif menanamkan life skill pada seluruh peserta didik, terutama dalam menjawab tantangan persaingan kerja. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi peran sekolah menengah kejuruan dalam meningkatkan life skill siswa pada jurusan Tata Rias dan Kecantikan. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara dengan guru, ketua jurusan, dan siswa, serta pengolahan informasi yang berguna bagi penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sekolah kejuruan berperan sebagai wadah untuk mengembangkan kemampuan khususnya pada bidang Tata Rias dan Kecantikan. Namun, evaluasi terhadap program studi Tata Rias dan Kecantikan dilakukan secara berkala untuk memastikan kesesuaian program pendidikan dengan industri kecantikan. Implikasi dari penelitian ini adalah perlunya perencanaan peningkatan life skill pada jurusan Tata Rias dan Kecantikan dengan mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai life skill kedalam kurikulum dan metode pengajaran. Hal ini diharapkan dapat menghasilkan peserta didik dan lulusan yang berdaya saing dan sukses dalam jenjang karir.
