Abstract
Approaches and strategies in teaching and learning are very important for students to be able to master the skills needed in the 21st century in line with the implementation process of educational transformation. This study was conducted to see the effect of implementing the ik-PBM model for the Islamic Studies course on students' critical thinking. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was used involving pre- and post-test methods on a treatment group and a control group consisting of 64 students at one of the polytechnics. This study uses the Malaysian Critical Thinking Skill Instrument - MyCT which has been tested for validity and reliability of the instrument's items using the Rasch Model. While the data analysis method is using descriptive statistics involving the mean score and standard deviation, followed by dependent and independent sample t-tests using IBM Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 27. The findings show that there is a significant difference between the treatment group and control, with a p value of .000 (p ˂ .05). While the value of the effect of the size of the treatment group on the critical skills test reached a high level (ƞ2 = 0.29). In conclusion, this finding shows that the ik-PBM model can increase the level of critical thinking for students. The implication of this study is that this model is expected to be an alternative approach for educators in their teaching.
