Abstract

Social media has become an important platform for users to interact and share information online. Insocial media, netizen comments play a key role in shaping users' perceptions of themselves and influencingtheir emotions. This study aims to investigate the influence of netizen comments on social media image andreputation. The theory used is social identity theory. The research method uses a quantitative approach withdata collection through administering online questionnaires to social media users. Respondents in this studywere randomly selected from various age groups and backgrounds. The variables measured include netizencomments, self-image, and reputation. The results showed that netizen comments have a significant influenceon social media self-image. Positive and supportive comments from netizens tend to enhance self-image, whilenegative or harassing comments can damage self-image. In addition, netizen comments also have an impacton social media reputation. Comments that contain support and appreciation tend to increase users' positiveemotions, while comments that demean or ridicule can trigger negative emotions such as anger or sadness.This research has important implications for understanding the dynamics of social interactions on socialmedia. Recognizing the influence of netizen comments on social media image and reputation can help usersto manage their responses to the comments they receive, as well as encourage positive and constructivecomments in social media environments.
