Abstract

Lack of knowledge about maintaining dental hygiene greatly affects children's habit of brushing their teeth. Health education will look interesting if delivered through interesting media as well. Children's education must be in accordance with the stage of child development. One of the media that can be used is animated video.This research is analytical with a survey method which aims to determine the differences in the level of knowledge of students at Grade III Private Elementary School, Riad Madani, Percut Sei Tuan District, before and after the animated video media education on how to brush their teeth, with a total sample of 58 people.The results showed that students' knowledge before education with video animation: 16 people (27.59%) had good knowledge, 36 people (62.07%) had fair knowledge, and 6 people (10.34%) had poor knowledge. ; knowledge of students after education: 55 people (94.83%) have good knowledge, 3 people (5.17%) have fair knowledge and no poor knowledge and there was a tendency to increase knowledge after treatment with an average of 0.776, with a probability value or p value of the Paired test = 0.000. This means that there is a difference between before and after treatment. The conclusion of this study is that it was found an increase in students' knowledge after education using animated videos as a medium. It is expected that the dental and oral health team will work together with the school to provide dissemination using animated videos to increase students' knowledge about dental and oral hygiene.
