Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether salicylic acid can improve seedling growth of upland rice Situ Bagendit varieties. This research was conducted in the laboratory of Physiology, Faculty of mathematics and natural sciences, University of Lampung in December 2014 in a 2x3 factorial experiment. Factor A was the immersion duration with 2 levels ie 12 hours and 24 hours. Factor B was the concentration of salicylic acid with 3 levels ie concentration of 0 mg / l, 50 mg / l and 100 mg / l. Each combination treatment was repeated 4 times. Experimental unit number is 24. Data from this study were analyzed variance with 5% significance level. If the interaction is real then proceed with the determination of the simple effect of soaking (factor A) at each salicylic acid (factor B) by BNT test at 5% significance level. The results showed that immersion duration affect the length of upland rice seedling, the concentration of salicylic acid 100 mg / l with a 24- hour immersion duration increase fresh weight, dry weight, and total chlorophyll content of seedling. The final conclusion is that salicylic acid can improve seedling growth of upland rice varieties Situ Bagendit with increasing fresh weight, dry weight, and total chlorophyll content of seedling. Keywords: Salicylic acid, upland rice, Situ bagendit varieties, seedling length, fresh weight, total chlorophyll content.
