Abstract
ObjectivesTo describe demographic and clinical data of patients with ocular cicatricial pemphigoid, assess direct immunofluorescence (DIF) findings in the conjunctival biopsy and its relationship to degree of ocular inflammation and scarring. Materials and methods36 records of patient with ocular cicatricial pemphigoid were reviewed. 19 (52.8%) were women. The average age was 69.5 years (range 34-86). Clinical and conjunctival biopsy data were collected. Fisher exact test was used to statistical analysis. Results30 patients had reports of DIF. No relationship was found between the presence of deposits and the degree of inflammation or scarring (IgG, p: 0.55; IgA, p: 0.62 y C3, p: 1.00). A particular DIF pattern was found in 46.7% of cases, with linear deposits in basement membrane IgG, IgA and C3 in stroma. ConclusionThe findings of DIF show no relation to the degree of conjunctival inflammation or scarring.
