Abstract

Philosophy and Current Issues (FIS) is a general studies course (MPU) implemented in 2019. This course is mandatory for all students, whether in public higher education institutions (IPTA) or private institutions (IPTS) in Malaysia. The study finds that most students find this subject difficult, as the majority of them have never taken any philosophy subjects before entering university. Moreover, this course is still being taught online due to the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic that occurred earlier. Therefore, the article focuses on the level of student acceptance of the FIS course at the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Kedah branch. The study adopts a quantitative method using a Google Form questionnaire distributed to 73 accounting students from UiTM Kedah. Student acceptance is measured based on the course syllabus content and teaching methods. The study's findings indicate that students' acceptance of FIS is positive and beneficial. However, many of them feel that certain sections of FIS are somewhat challenging and require innovative teaching approaches to make it more engaging and easily understandable.
