Abstract

Islamic boarding schools are educational institutions that integrate character education into every aspect of teaching and learning. The MTA Mojogedang Karanganyar Islamic Boarding School seeks to use the KMI curriculum to help students develop positive character. The aims of this study were to (a) describe how the Islamic boarding school curriculum influences the character of the students and (b) identify the obstacles that hinder the students from using the curriculum to develop positive character. This research is a qualitative research. The findings of this study indicate that the MTA Mojogedang Karanganyar Islamic boarding school has succeeded in shaping the personality of its students. In particular, character education is instilled through extracurricular, co-curricular and intra-curricular activities. The MTA Islamic Boarding School uses the principles of sincerity, simplicity, independence, brotherhood, and freedom to shape the character of its students
