Abstract

This study aims to identify the values applied in learning mathematics with two respondents of Year 4 students in a primary school in the district of Kuching, located in the state of Sarawak. Data was collected qualitatively through observation, interviews and document analysis. Data collection was done through three learning processes, namely pre-learning interviews, observations during learning in class and post-learning interviews. The results of the study found that there are values that are applied in classroom mathematics learning, namely the value of general education, the value of mathematics and the value of mathematics education. The values of general education applied in learning mathematics are the value of courage, the value of cooperation, the value of independence and the value of honest. The mathematical values applied in learning mathematics are the value of rationalism and the value of objectivism. Meanwhile, the value of mathematics education applied in learning mathematics is the value of activism, the value of accessibility and the value of evaluation. Based on the findings of the study, it is hoped that this study can help educators to obtain information about the values applied in learning mathematics by observing the behavior and attitudes of students in the classroom.
