Abstract

This article discusses a critical review of issues of education and society from John Dewey's perspective. This issue is important to be discussed to find common ground issues of education with the ideals of a democratic society. The material object of this discussion is education and society and the formal object is the view of John Dewey's educational philosophy on education and social society. This article uses qualitative/library research with elements of descriptive, interpretive, internal coherence, and historical continuity methods which are then analysed critically-reflectively by the author. The results of the study found that when entering the issue of education in society from John Dewey's perspective, there were at least some problematic issues that were present. First, the educational process is closely related to the surrounding social environment. Second, the reality of society is very diverse, both values, styles, goals, and different interests. Third, a democratic society is only present in a democratic country, especially democracy in education. The author, like Dewey, hopes that the educational process must be supported and support the ideals of a democratic society, whether pursued by individuals or by the state. Education must be based on reality and real-life improvement.
