Abstract
ABSTRACT Calengsai is an acronym for the words Calung, Lengger, and Barongsai. The Calengsai dance depicts a cultural journey between China and Banyumas. with the existence of Calung, Lengger and Barongsai which were worked on, developed and acculturated so as to produce a new dance work entitled Calengsai dance which was staged in the Lengger Metamorphosis show. Rianto's Calengsai dance is a new dance creation, a development of Sri Rahayu's Calengsai dance. Rianto developed the Calengsai dance from the form of a calengsai dance performance with the addition of a Chinese singer, Barongan Banyumas and a buffalo-headed dancer called Rajamala.This research is based on the formulation of the problem how the form of the Calengsai dance by Rianto and how the creation of the Calengsai dance by Rianto uses the theoretical basis of the form expressed by Slamet MD and the creation of dance by Slamet MD which was examined using qualitative research methods with an interactive approach that is descriptive analytical with the data collection stages are field observations, interviews, documentation, and library researchThe results obtained show that the Calengsai dance by Rianto is a form of acculturation of two Javanese and Chinese cultures, the form of which is embodied in Calung Lengger, Barongsai and Barongan Banyumas which follow the motions of the Banyumasan tradition developed by Rianto, the creator through a process of observation, exploration , experimentation, formation and training of dancers.
