Abstract
Hypertension is a non-infectious disease caused by modern lifestyle. Its main symptom is the increase in intracranial pressure which causes hypertrophy of heart muscle fibers do not function well. The objective of this case study was to find out the description of the need for nutrition in hypertension patients. It used descriptive design with nursing care approach in two hypertension patients and had problem with fulfilling the need for nutrition. It was done at Putri Hijau level II Hospital, Medan from January to July, 2018. The data were gathered by conducting interviews and physical examination and using studying format as its instrument. In the post-intervention with the role of family in adherence to dieting, the need for nutrition was fulfilled in the two patients. It is recommended that the hospital management and science and technology development providers in nursing motivate nurses to be independent in fulfilling the need for nutrition in hypertension patients. Families and health care providers should apply the adherence to dieting in hypertension patients.
