Abstract

Background: Mask waste from the COVID-19 pandemic contains many germs that transmit disease. So, the waste used in masks must be managed by the waste producer according to the guidelines for managing used masks. This training activity aims to provide community knowledge and behavior in managing used masks at home. Method: The team carried out outreach activities on the management of used masks, practice/training in making disinfectant materials, learning to manage used masks, and practical activities. The partners in this activity were 22 people consisting of cadres and the community of RW 12, Pasirkaliki Village, North Cimahi District, Cimahi City. The evaluation was carried out by measuring changes in community knowledge and behavior in managing mask waste. Data was collected using questionnaires, and skills in making disinfectants and behavior in managing mask files were observed at home. Implement activities to manage used masks at home to increase knowledge and skills and change people's behavior. Finding partners are very active, curious, and motivated. Results: Improved understanding of cadres and the community; previously, most of their knowledge was poor (81.25%) after carrying out service activities, and most of their knowledge (22.75%) was excellent. Disinfectants for masks were made using household measurements, and 32.35% showed a change in behavior in the correct management of used masks. Conclusion: Education for the public in managing used masks is a significant activity to provide understanding to health cadres and will influence changes in behavior in managing used masks.
