Abstract
We analyze the conditions under which the vibrational spectrum can provide information on the existence of the Peierls distortion in undoped trans-polyacetylene. If in the doped material sections of undimerized chains are generated, calculations predict a Raman active A g band approximately between 1300-1250 cm −1.
