Abstract

As reviewed here, improvements in surgical reconstructive techniques have markedly increased the number infants with complex and critical congenital heart defects who can have successful heart transplantation. The use of new, improved immunosuppressive agents has significantly reduced the morbidity of pediatric heart transplantation, and it should also increase long-term survival rates after heart, heart-lung, and lung transplantation in infants and children.
