Abstract

Gold nanoparticles demonstrate influential advantages when functionalized with bio-molecules. The Pectin/Gold Nano Colloidal Dispersion (P/G NCD) and folic acid-Pectin/Gold Nano Colloidal Dispersion (FA-P/G NCD) were synthesized by simple chemical reduction method to obtain monodispersed functionalized gold nanoparticles and were characterized. The influence of promoting excited oxygen molecule in curcumin was studied, with and without Ultraviolet light (UV) irradiation using green reagent. The formation of folic acid-pectin (FA-P) conjugates affects the capping of gold nanoparticles when compared to pure pectin, this was confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR), Ultraviolet Visible spectroscopy (UV–vis), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Dynamic light Scattering (DLS) and zeta measurements. The FA-P conjugates irregularly tethers on to the nanoparticle surface leaving randomly extended flagellate regions over the surface of gold nanoparticles. Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) of gold and folic acid enhanced the effect of curcumin production of singlet oxygen generation in P/G NCD and FA-P/G NCD, which will promising for effective theranostic applications.
