Abstract

Abstract Purple-leaf sand cherry growing in 7.5-liter containers and infested with peachtree borer were used to evaluate effectiveness of Furadan spikes against establishment of peachtree borer larvae. Six-gram spikes containing 1% Furadan were placed in containers on 19 Jun 2.54 cm from the container edge and just below the surface of the medium. Plants were watered just prior to and immediately after spike placement. Five single-plant replicates/treatment were placed outside the greenhouse during the test period, and they received 1.3 cm of overhead irrigation each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Treatment effectiveness was evaluated 1 Oct by examining the base of each plant for exudate and frass.
