Abstract
High-energy synchrotron X-ray measurements (HEXRD) and pair-distribution function (PDF) analysis were carried out to investigate the local structure in ferroelectric Cd 1−x Zn x Te alloy. The Cd 1−x Zn x Te crystallizes in the zinc-blende structure and the PDF analysis revealed that the zinc-blende lattice of the Cd 1−x Zn x Te alloy distorts locally to accommodate the distinct Cd-Te and Zn-Te alloy bond lengths. The local disorder correlate in the ⟨111⟩ direction and it is the origin of macroscopic ferroelectricity in the Cd1−x Zn x Te alloy.
