Abstract

The p-d hybridization in the crystal field has been examined in order to determine the spin-dependent interaction of Γ 8 band electrons with paramagnetic impurities in zinc-blende type semiconductors. We show that the interaction is described by the Heisenberg Hamiltonian only for impurities with the total orbital angular momentum L = 0 (Mn 2+, Fe 3+). Additional terms for Fe 2+ and Cr 2+ (L = 2) are presented.
