Abstract

Soil samples were collected from 84 locations in central and southern Wales. PCB concentrations ranged from 1.9 μg/kg to 1208 μg/kg with a mean of 86 μg/kg. with a mean and median of 11 μg/kg. Concentrations were highest in the southern, industrialised region, and decreased towards the northern boundary of the sampling area. The study was combined with a re-evaluation of an earlier survey of PCBs in British soils, to assess the significance of potential PCB emission sources impacting onto the sampling sites.
