Abstract

Spontaneous formation of well defined biological patterns is studied by Turing's mechanism, i.e. autocatalytic biochemical control systems with internal diffusion may bifurcate to stable inhomogeneous concentration patterns (morphogenetic fields). Computer simulations have been carried out for the gap and pair-rule levels of genes in early Drosophila embryos.
