Abstract
This paper presents the results of the faunal analysis of the bone remains recovered in the Islamic suburb located on the Roman theater of Cartagena (Murcia), with a broad chronological overview (ss. X-XIII). Thanks to the analysis of 6,940 bone elements recovered in dumps associated with houses, the consumption patterns and livestock strategies of a city that is recovering its importance from the 10th century, within the Islamic orbit, are inferred, which will leave a mark on consumption patterns associated with identity and cultural issues. In this way, the progressive loss of the ruralized image of the previous period (Byzantine era) is observed and progress is made towards a market economy typical of a big city. This work emphasizes the potential of archaeofaunistic studies to determine cultural issues.
