Abstract

The exposure rate and central axis per cent depth dose for the fluoroscopic beam of a simulator were determined as a function of current, peak kilovoltage and target-skin distance. From data on beam parameters and time elapsed for fluoroscopic setup of therapy fields, the doses for 72 patients were determined. The average fluoroscopic time of three minutes per field produced a surface dose of 19 rads and a midline dose of 4 rads. Radiation safety considerations relating to these exposures are discussed.
