Abstract

In this interview feature, the attorney and Chicano activist José Ángel Gutiérrez discusses founding the Voces of Tejanos Oral History Project, a project dedicated to highlighting public leaders of Mexican origin, Chicanos and Chicanas, to continue storytelling and to correct the historical record about the Chicano community. In addition, Gutiérrez recounts his introduction to oral history as a method, significant oral history interviews, useful sources, and the importance of using oral history in the classroom.
