Introduction

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex, heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disorder that severely compromises the development of social relatedness, reciprocity, and social communication. There is still no cure for ASD, early identification and intervention can make a significant difference in a child’s IQ, communication, and adaptive functioning[2,3,4,5] It is often difficult for families, especially among culturally and economically diverse populations, to access appropriate services, which impedes the long-term success of these children[6] and substantially increases the lifetime cost of care[7,8]. This commentary provides an examination of the Pathways Early Autism Intervention (Pathways), a translational parent-mediated intervention for toddlers with ASD.
