Abstract

The granting of patents in India is governed by the Patents Act (1970). The patent offices come under the administrative control of the Government of India, Ministry of Industry, Department of Industrial Development. Indian Patent Law is as old as 130 years and underwent many revisions. The Patents Act (1970) in force at present reveals how far the important functions of the patent system are fulfilled; surveys the institutions offering patent information services; gives a list of authorities receiving patent office publications free of charge; describes patent information system in terms of its collection of primary and secondary sources, publications, information services, etc.; gives an account of the use of the Gazette of India, Part III, Section 2, in the dissemination of patent information; and mentions the various international activities which suit the Indian socio-economic conditions.
