Abstract

Novelty: A novel cyclic peptide, designated axinastatin 1, is claimed. It is obtained from the marine sponge Axinella sp and is said to show cytostatic and in vivo antineoplastic properties.Biology: The compound is stated to have a PS ED50 of 0.21 μ/ml and elicit 20% life extension in the P388 murine leukaemia model.Chemistry: The isolation and purifiction of axinastatin 1 from Axinella sp is described. Eleven compositions of the compound are exemplified. Full characterization details are presented.
