Abstract

Although one of the first applications of computer algebra occurred in chemistry, chemists have only recently begun to use computer algebra as a research tool. This paper will begin with a survey of past (largely uncited) and present applications of computer algebra in chemistry. Following this introduction, applications in chemical research and chemical education will be discussed in terms of the dramatic increase in availability and in power of computer algebra languages.
