Abstract

AbstractResearch topics related to some Computer Algebra applications in the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (IMI) of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) for the period of last 40 years are outlined. The paper consists in three parts. In the first part (Sect. 1) the main features of the Computer Algebra Systems are briefly described and some Computer Algebra developments and applications in IMI for the period of last 40 years are presented. In the second part (Sect. 2) a representative Computer Algebra application (for solving initial and boundary-value problems for some classes of differential equations with use of the Computer Algebra System Mathematica) is considered. The third part (Sect. 3) includes notes on some current and future Computer Algebra applications.KeywordsComputer algebraComputer algebra systemSymbolic computationOperational calculusConvolutionDuhamel principleInitial value problemBoundary value problem
