Abstract

New device, enabling more than tenfold shortening and smooth variation of a laser pulse duration using repeated nonlinear total internal reflection of the laser beam from a border of transparent and absorbing media, is proposed. The shape and duration of the reflected and transmitted parts of the incident pulse are calculated in dependence on parameters of neighboring media and conditions of the experiment.© (1998) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
