Abstract
Gingival hyperplasia secondary to Dilantin administration is considered to be a condition strictly seen in dentate individuals. However, five cases are found in the literature that document gingival hyperplasia in edentulous individuals receiving Dilantin for seizure control. This report documents the youngest case in which a 19-month-old female infant with multiple neurologic problems, complicated by seizures, suffered from Dilantin hyperplasia which prevented the eruption of her primary dentition. Physicians and dentists should be aware of this complication when evaluating children with anodontia.
