Abstract

Quite a few superdeformed bands in the mass regions of 150 as well as 190, having different trends in the dynamic moments of inertia with increasing angular momentum, are studied in a simple version of the particle-rotor model. Transition energies, dynamic, and kinematic moments of inertia have been calculated. A reasonably good agreement with the experimental data justifies the application of this version of the model in the new regime of nuclear structure. Electromagnetic moments calculated within the same model also agree with the experimental results. The role of high-$j$ intruder orbitals in the structure of the superdeformed bands in both the regions has been reinvestigated.
