Abstract

The paper is devoted to the activity of the reserve battalion of the Volinsky Lifeguard Regiment during the July political crisis (namely July 3-5, 1917). Special attention is paid, fi rstly, to the warrant offi cer L. V. Gorbatenkov and his role in guiding the actions of the troops on July 3, 1917; secondly, to the Soldiers’ Committees and their leading role in the life of the battalion and regiment; thirdly, to the relationships between the reserve battalion of the Volinsky Lifeguard Regiment, the Provisional Government and the Petrograd Soviet of Workers’ and Soldiers’ Deputies.
