Abstract

We propose criteria by means of which one may determine whether or not a statement about the singularity structure of a partial-wave amplitude will be consistent with the principles of special relativity. We suggest that none of the conventional partial-wave amplitudes satisfies these criteria. These considerations imply that there may be no simple connection between the trajectory functions of Regge poles and the high-energy behavior of relativistic scattering amplitudes.
