Partial persistence and extinction in [formula omitted]-dimensional competitive systems

Abstract

In this paper, we first consider an N -dimensional system slightly more general than the Lotka–Volterra system, and give conditions that imply strong persistence of all species. Using this result, we then give computable conditions on the coefficients which imply the ultimate extinction of certain species in an N -dimensional Lotka–Volterra system.
