Abstract

ABSTRACT A new model is presented for the evolution of the complex stiffness modulus in dynamic bending beam fatigue tests. The model takes into account both irreversible and reversible (healing) stiffness damage. It is based on the assumption that a small part of the dissipated energy is used in the creation of minor defects leading to a loss in the stiffness of the material. The model is applied on four point bending tests and uni-axial push-pull tests in controlled deflection mode with good results. The model is also applicable for other loading conditions like controlled force but than no analytical solutions are at hand. In those cases numerical solution methods have to be used.
