Abstract

Gas insulated switchgears (GIS) occupy an important position in the power system. Insulating spacers surface discharge is an important factor to the safe operation of GIS. The authors set up different insulation defect models in insulator surface and use the UV camera to observe the surface discharge phenomena, we have obtained the following conclusions: (1) the photon numbers increase with increasing length of the models, however, there are many repetitive experiments show that it has saturation characteristic ;(2) When the same kind of simulation insulation fault in different position, the initial discharge voltage is different, photon numbers under the same voltage also is put in bigger difference;(3) When the distance between insulation defect models and bar is more than 6 cm, the discharge decreased significantly under the same voltage, and the ultraviolet photon numbers decreased significantly. These conclusions is helpful to following in-depth study of insulator surface charge characteristics, and provide the certain basis for the scene detection of GIS partial discharge.
