Abstract
Regeneration of weak acid ion exchange resins by carbonic acid can greatly be improved if anion exchanger material is added to the system. Theoretical and experimental evaluation of the regeneration equilibrium show the efficiency of this method. Furthermore this coupled application constitutes an effective way to reduce the neutral salt content of water. Only CO 2 is needed for the regeneration of both resins, so that additional amounts of salt have not to be discharged with the effluent.
