Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of paroxetine combined with magnesium valproate sustained release tablets in the treatment of refractory depression.Methods 60 patients with refractory depression were randomly divided into two groups,30 for each group.The study group received paroxetine combined with magnesium valproate sustained release tablets,while the control group received paroxetine alone for 8 weeks.The scores on the Hamilton Depression Scale and the clinical efficacy were observed and then compared between the two groups 4 and 8 weeks after treatment.Results 8 weeks after treatment,the effectiveness rate was 76.7% in the study group and 50% in the control group,with significant differences (P<0.01).The scores on the Hamilton Depression Scale decreased more significantly in the study group than in the control group at the end of 4 and 8 weeks (P<0.01).There were no significant differences in side effccts between the two groups (P>0.05).Conclusions Paroxetine combined with magnesium valproate sustained release tablets is more effective than paroxetine alone in the treatment of refractory depression.
