Abstract

Background: Teeth are a very important part of the body for children's health, when teeth are affected by caries, they will experience excruciating pain, therefore children must get used to brushing their teeth properly to prevent dental caries. Parental support can provide an important role for the dental and oral health of their children. Objective: To determine the relationship between parental support for the habit of brushing teeth before going to bed at night with the incidence of caries in children aged 5-6 years at the Al-Muhsinin Foundation, Bekasi Regency. Methods: The design used in this research is descriptive analytic observational with a cross sectional approach. The population of this study were all children and their parents who attended the Al-Muhsinin Foundation, totaling 20 children and their parents. The sampling technique used was the total sampling method, the number of samples that matched the criteria were 18 children and their parents. The data was collected using a parental support questionnaire and an observation sheet for caries examination in children. Data analysis with Spearman rank test. Results: The results showed that the mother's role in maintaining dental hygiene in children aged 5-6 years at the Al-Muhsinin Foundation were mostly negative criteria (55.6%), the incidence of dental caries in preschool children aged 5-6 years had dental caries. with low criteria (44.4%), statistical results show that there is a relationship between the role of mothers in maintaining dental hygiene with the incidence of dental caries in children aged 5-6 years at the Al-Muhsinin Foundation Bekasi Regency, as seen from the value of 0.002. Conclusion: there is a relationship between the mother's role in maintaining dental hygiene with the incidence of dental caries in children aged 5-6 years.
